Free Image Cropper
Crop images with preset aspect ratios or freeform selection. Drag, resize, and position the crop area visually. All processing happens in your browser. Free, private, no signup.
How Image Cropping Works
Our image cropper lets you select any region of your image to keep, discarding the rest. Here is how it works:
- Upload your image. Select any JPEG, PNG, or WebP file from your device.
- Choose an aspect ratio. Pick from common presets (1:1, 4:3, 3:2, 16:9, 9:16, 3:4, 2:3), enter a custom ratio, or use freeform mode for unrestricted cropping.
- Position the crop area. Drag the crop rectangle to move it. Use the corner and edge handles to resize. The rule-of-thirds grid helps with composition.
- Crop and download. Click the Crop button to generate the final image at full resolution, then download it instantly.
All processing happens entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. Your images are never uploaded to any server. They stay on your device throughout the entire process.
Common Aspect Ratios Explained
1:1 (Square) is perfect for social media profile pictures, Instagram posts, and thumbnails.
4:3 is the classic photo format used by many digital cameras and monitors.
16:9 (Widescreen) is the standard for YouTube thumbnails, presentations, and modern displays.
9:16 (Vertical) is ideal for Instagram Stories, TikTok, and mobile-first content.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Does cropping reduce image quality?
- No. Cropping extracts the selected region at its original full resolution. No pixels are scaled or resampled, so the cropped area retains the same quality as the original image.
- Can I crop to a custom aspect ratio?
- Yes. Click the Custom button and enter any width-to-height ratio. The crop area will lock to your specified ratio while still allowing you to drag and resize it.
- Do you store or upload my images?
- No. Your images never leave your device. All cropping is performed locally in your web browser using JavaScript. We do not upload, store, or have access to any of your images.
